A Bensalem High School student will face criminal charges for allegedly sending classmates a picture of a firearm, which prompted a police presence at the school early on Tuesday, April 25.

Authorities were called to the school, 4319 Hulmeville Road, after administrators learned that a "photograph of a gun" was being shared "via cell phone," township police previously said

Upon investigation, police learned that no gun was displayed or found on campus and determined there was "no active threat," the department said. Students were not dismissed, police noted, though authorities remained on the scene.

Now, investigators say a student used their cell phone's "AirDrop" feature to transmit a "threatening photograph" to others on campus. The student faces both school disciplinary action and criminal charges, Bensalem police announced Wednesday, April 26.

"Parents, please have a serious discussion with your children about the impact this type of behavior can have at school and about the consequences of making bad decisions as it relates to threats of school violence," the department said.

"We will continue to be diligent in our efforts to keep all of the children who attend Bensalem schools safe."
